BUSCA

Catholic Charities of the East Bay Helps Refugees (www.cceb.org):

The Refugee Employment Social Services program serves refugees residing in Alameda County with employment counseling, job development, and job placement to help them effectively integrate into American life. Contact (510) 768-3128, Hoang Ho, hho@cceb.org. The Refugee Resettlement program helps refugees integrate into mainstream society through comprehensive resettlement and post-resettlement services. Contact (510) 768-3106, Sr. Elisabeth Lang, elang@cceb.org.

Saint Vincent de Paul at St. Michael Parish Needs You:

The St. Michael chapter does need volunteers at their Help Desk and Food Pantry, and donations of money, food, sleeping bags, toiletries, etc. Contact: Paul Kuzmenko, kuzmenko@att.net

Care for the Earth – Clean Up a Beach or Park:

Want to get the family outside as the weather turns warmer? There are many volunteer opportunities to care for the environment.

  • (1) Save the Bay, www.savesfbay.org, organizes regular field trips to clean upshorelines, plant trees, restore wetlands, etc.
  • (2) The East Bay Regional Park District, www.ebparks.org/getinvolved/volunteer, offers opportunities to do habitat restoration, park cleanups, etc.

Give the Gift of Literacy with the Livermore READ Project:

By helping an adult to read, you will help break the cycle of poverty for them and their families. There are adults in our community who struggle to read at home...at work...to their children. Become a volunteer literacy tutor, and make a real difference in someone's life. Contact: 373-5507, jahardin@livermore.lib.ca.us. The READ Project is sponsored by the Livermore Public Library, www.ci.livermore.ca.us/library/literacy.html.

Support the US Bishops’ Catholic Campaign to End the Use of the Death Penalty (www.usccb.org/deathpenalty):

Please go to our Bishops’ website to learn WHY we should replace the death penalty with life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. To take ACTION on this issue, (1) pray and (2) write, call or email your state and federal government officials. To easily locate and email your elected officials, go to the League of Women Voters Take Action website: http://takeaction.lwv.org/lwv/dbq/officials

Be in Solidarity with the Poor:

a. Read a story about the challenges of a real person somewhere in the world at Catholic Relief Services, http://crs.org, and learn how CRS is helping. b. Watch a video showing the story of a real American in poverty, their challenges, and what we can do about it. Go to You Tube (www.youtube.com) and search for "Catholic Charities USA", or "Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America".
