Welcome to Saint Michael Church

ADULT FAITH FORMATION

That All May Be One... ...

When she delves into her own mystery, the Church, the People of God in the New Covenant, discovers her link with the Jewish people, “the first to hear the Word of God.” the Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God’s revelation in the Old Cove- nant. to the Jews “belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises: to them the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ”; “for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.”

To reunite all his children...the Father willed to call the whole of humanity together into his Son’s Church. the Church is the place where humanity must discover its unity and salvation. The Church is “the world reconciled.” She is that bark which “in the full sail of the Lord’s cross, by the breath of the Holy Spirit, navigates safely in this world.” According to another image dear to the Church fathers, she is prefigured by Noah’s ark, which alone saves from the flood.”

—Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraphs 839, 845 ...Indeed, according to the prophet Isaiah, the hope of redemption extends to the whole of humanity: “Many peoples will come and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths’”. (Isaiah 2:3)

Christians and Jews share this hope; we are in fact “prisoners of hope”... Our Easter and your Pesah, while distinct and different, unite us in our common hope centered on God and his mercy. the urge us to cooperate with each other and with all men and women of goodwill to make this a better world for all as we await the fulfillment of God’s promises.

—Pope Benedict XVI Message to the Jewish Community 14 April 2008

STIR UP A NEW PENTECOST IN THE WORLD

"There is a need for young people who will allow God's love to burn within them and who will respond generously to his urgent call. In particular, I assure you that the Spirit of Jesus today is inviting you young people to be bearers of the good news of Jesus to your contemporaries. You know the ideals, the language, and also the wounds, the expectations, and at the same time the desire for goodness felt by your contemporaries...We carry within us the seal of the Father's love in Jesus Christ which is the Holy Spirit. Let us never forget this, because the Spirit of the Lord always remembers every individual, and wishes, particularly through you young people, to stir up the wind and fire of a new Pentecost in the world" -Pope Benedict XVI, Message for World Youth Day, 2008

Adopt-a-Unit Tri-Valley
Support Our Troops
School Supplies
From America to Iraq

This is a program whereby American communities provide support for the Iraqi communities. This support is initially in the form of much needed school supplies and provides an opportunity for teachers and students of the two countries to communicate.

The adopted cities collect needed supplies and ship them to our troops in Iraq who then distribute the supplies to Iraqi school children…from our hands-to our soldiers’ hands – to Iraqi children’s hands. One particularity effective means is to allow our schools to collect the supplies; this gives our children an opportunity to be part of something larger than themselves.

School Supplies Needed

For more information, contact Marilyn Carter, a representative of Adopt-a-Unit Tri Valley, at 447-6221.

THE LEGION OF MARY

The Legion of Mary is a worldwide organization founded in 1921 in Ireland. There are about 3,000,000 active members in 163 countries. Many more auxiliary members with their prayers support them.

The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God. Members strive for personal holiness by prayer and the performance of apostolic work under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the service of Mary, the Mother of Jesus.

The Legion of Mary is an instrument for evangelization with a variety of services. Catholics may enrich their spiritual lives while helping their parish clergy. This path will lead us to Jesus through Mary.

Since 1956, St. Michael Parish has had a unit of the Legion of Mary praying and working in Livermore. Our pastors have welcomed the Legion’s assistance in reaching areas that their precious time did not allow them to cover. “The harvest is greater than ever, but the laborers are few” so we invite you to attend a Monday meeting at 7:30PM in the Parish Conference Room.
